Hug the World

Hug the World

Opening October 4th!!

BooTown is resurrecting the film Buffy the Vampire for Hug the World (see what we did there??), the fourth incarnation of its Benshi-style performance.

In Japan, Benshi performers memorize Western movies and then reinterpret the story for an Eastern audience. BooTown changes things up a bit by morphing Buffy’s original plot into something entirely different. Hynds and company will turn the classic-coming-to-age-during-an-infestation-of-vampires story into a zombpocalypse with a family-ties twist.

The cast of voices include (who all believe a zombpocalypse is likely) include Blair Knowles of yoga-instructor fame, local actor/BooTown newcomer Matt Benton, star of the soon-to-be-released movie Meet Me There Lisa Friedrich, and local improvisor/comedian Adrian Frimpong. Joe Wozny will return to perform an original score written for the show and our favorite video wizard Austin Havican edited the film.

In keeping with the company’s mission of producing in unexpected venues, Hug the World will be performed at Rudyard’s British Pub, home of BooTown’s monthly Grown-up Storytime series, Montrose Proper, Clutch City Squire, Big Star Bar and at a local cemetery. (Yes, a graveyard).

The production runs during the first three weeks of October (see calendar below). Tickets are pay-what-you-can and can be purchased at the door.

Friday October 4, 8pm at Montrose Proper (1505 Westheimer)
Saturday October 5, 10pm and Midnight at Rudyard’s British Pub

Wednesday October 9, 8pm at Clutch City Squire
Friday October 11, 8pm at Big Star Bar (1005 W. 19th st)

Saturday October 19, 8pm at College Park Memorial Cemetery (3525 West Dallas)
