About BooTown

Our Fancy-Pantsy Mission Statement:

BooTown creates original performance events that combine the traditions of theatre and performance art with modern interdisciplinary methods.

What that means:

We do new works that we come up with ourselves and devise them with our team in new places because new audiences like to go to cool venues they have never been to before. Founded in the summer of 2007 by University of Houston graduates Emily Hynds and Julie Gomez, BooTown was from the start a collaborative effort. Other founding members included Greg Hundemer, Philip Hays and Cathy Davis. Over the years the creative staff and content has changed and BooTown has morphed into an edgy, independent theatre institution under the creative oversight of Co-Artistic Directors Lindsay Burleson and Emily Hynds. Currently we produce two monthly events, Grown-up Storytime and Neo-Benshi (in collaboration with Beta Theater) and 3-4 larger productions per season including shadow puppet shows, larger Benshi performances and pretty much whatever else we feel like. While our monthly events are always $5, our larger shows are pay-what-you-can and we will never turn anyone away from one of our shows.

BooTown is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, so all your donations are tax-deductible!

Neo Benshi, Amy and AntoineAmy Birkhead and Antoine Culbreath perform at Neo Benshi at Beta Theater.
