Werewolves and Prostitutes

Putting the “risk” in risqué since…well… March of 2015 I guess.

The third shadow puppet play of our 14-15 season is hooking up creatures of the night with ladies of the night. Werewolves and Prostitutes explores the lives of the latter with the terror-ific twist of the former.

“Some scenes will approach the dark side of sex workers, while others will shine light on sex workers that feel empowered, and others will feature a comical spin – but every story has an underlying task of incorporating werewolves,” Bootown’s co-artistic director and curator Lindsay Burleson said.

Werewolves and Prostitutes is the second show in Projectorphiles, BooTown’s latest series that showcases shadow puppet shorts. The performance is comprised of various vignettes that touch on the theme of the title and are presented via projected images, audio recordings, and other forms of mixed media.

The puppeteering pack putting together this round’s episodes includes Burleson as well as Bootown’s co-artistic director Emily Hynds, and past shadow puppeteers Jade Young, Mauricio Menjivar and newcomer Amanda Bell. An original score will be provided by Justice Tirapelli-Jamail.

Werewolves and Prostitutes opens Sunday March 15 and runs through Friday March 27 at various venues around town (see calendar below). Tickets are pay-what-you-can (suggested donation $10). For more information, please visit the FaceBook page.
