Cool story, bro

So the other day I was walking my dog, as I do every day, and she stopped to sniff around, as she does every five seconds or so. I thought nothing of it and we continued on our walk, until I saw her chewing on something. She does like to eat grass, but this was different. It was making a crunching sound and I became concerned that she was maybe chewing on a rock, as she sometimes does. I scolded her and pried her mouth open and removed the “rock” with my hand. It wasn’t a rock. It was cat crap. I touched it with my bare hands and couldn’t even wash them because we were on a walk and I had like a mile and a half until we were home. The end.

That is an example of a LAME story that you should NOT send for the return of Grown-up Storytime. We are sure you have much cooler things happen to you. You should write about them and then send it in. You can email stories to grownupstorytime@bootown.org or you can even submit them online right here. Stories for GUST 45 are due May 8.

The next GUST is Tuesday May 15 at Rudyard’s British Pub, where you can also order tots. The show starts at 9pm and costs $5.

We’re doing Mijo again!

Great news! We loved Mijo so much we are doing it again (and also maybe because we need to get a video recording) and we’re opening it up for an audience.

The show starts at 8pm at Rudyard’s British Pub and is $5.

We love this show and are so happy to be able to do it again. We hope to see you there.

PS – If you missed it the first time, here is how our fancy press release explained it -

In Japan, Benshi performers memorize western movies and then reinterpret the story for an
eastern audience. BooTown’s crew (BooTown founder Emily Hynds, Blake Whitaker and Joe
Wozny) will retell the story of two battling bar bouncers through their own satirical commentary
backed by the musical stylings of local blues hound Lucas Gorham (Grandfather Child).

“Hopefully, the audience will go away with a ton of laughs, and the overwhelming urge to high-
five their best friend. Or just roundhouse kick someone,” Burleson (BooTown Associate Artistic Director) says.

It’s that time again. Time to start thinking about what rad stories you’re going to send us for GUST 45. The show is May 15, at Rudyard’s as always, and we start at 9pm. Mijo opens TOMORROW!

It’s true. The wait is over. Mijo opens tomorrow.

In Japan, the concept of a “Benshi” show consists of performers reinterpreting western movies to help an eastern audience have a better understanding of the plot. In America, the concept of a “Benshi” show consists of BooTown Theatre company taking a kick-ass movie like Roadhouse and reinterpreting the crap out of it.

Friday March 9 and 10 at 8pm and Friday March 16 at 10pm and Midnight.

Grown-up Storytime on break

Thanks for making these past Grown-up Storytimes the raddest we’ve had, ever. We’re taking a little break from GUST until May, which means you have two whole months to write us a story and send it in. Here’s where you can submit it online.

While we’re breaking from GUST we are working on MIJO, a Benshi tale re-interpreting the American classic, Roadhouse. The Swayze! Sam Elliot! Roundhouse kicks!! March 9, 10, and 16 at Rudyard’s.

We were just chatting with someone the other day about that new (ish) restaurant over by Kirby, Twin Peaks. When the billboard was first put up we got really excited that it was going to be a David Lynch themed joint, complete with apple pie and drinks called Laura Palmers (half ice tea/half blood!), but we were sadly mistaken. It’s just one of those wannabe Hooters places where girls wear no clothing.

Seriously guys, (since BooTown is overwhelmingly fem) is that cool? Is it fun to go eat wings delivered to you by girls with big boobs who would never date you and just want big tips? Is this something that brings dudes in?

It’s OK if you say yes, we are just curious and don’t understand your species sometimes. Maybe you should write a story about it for the next Grown-up Storytime and clue us in.
