The first half of BooTown’s season has been pretty rad, and it’s probably gonna be even rad-er in 2012.

The Grown-up Storytime Series is ever-growing, ever-entertaining, ever-vigilant. We did a puppet show for the first time! And it was actually pretty cool. There are puppets hanging everywhere in my house, but whatever. Now we are gearing up for our second larger show of the season…MIJO. If you like Roadhouse, moustaches, and hi-fives, then you will like this show. OH YEA and XXXMas (bootown’s holiday party) returned at our buds new bar – Double Trouble. Go there, it’s cool.

Yesterday I worked at my office job all day, and afterwards intended to go to Slinging Ink, a new storytelling series put on by Diverse Works and held at Big Star Bar which I was super duper excited about. Then I had a nap attack as soon as I got home, missed the whole thing, and woke up at 10pm ready to PARTY. So I cleaned off my work desk and folded some clothes and did some dishes and plucked my eyebrows. Then I went (back) to bed.

That is an example of a LAME story you should not send to us for Grown-up Storytime. I’m sure you can think of something much cooler to tell us about.

Two for Tuesday – two puppets from our upcoming show!

In case you haven’t heard, BooTown is putting on a puppet show! October 29 and November 4 & 5 we’ll be over at Caroline Collective with our good friend Camella Clements to present three new works for the puppet stage. We are very excited and have been building puppets like it’s our job… OK, so it sort of is.

To give you a double-shot on this lovely Tuesday, here’s a sneak peek of two of the puppets featured in the show (one is naked, so don’t look while at work).

lame story vs good story

My friend Timothy and I had lunch the other day. He’s moving to Glasgow in a week and a half so he gets to pick where we go, as he probably won’t eat here for a couple of years. So of course, we went to IHOP. It’s a pretty sad place at 12:30 in the afternoon on a Wednesday, but I got to have bacon so that made up for it. On our receipt it said that on our next visit to bring the receipt back and we could get a free short stack of pancakes. I told Timothy that he had to find someone else to go with him, as I don’t care to go to IHOP more than once every six months, much less twice in two weeks. Plus, I don’t like pancakes.

That’s an example of a story you should NOT send to BooTown for Grown-up Storytime. You probably have way cooler stories. You can submit them online with our storyform…it’s so easy!

I got poison ivy over the past week. I have no idea how I got it, which sucks because usually that in itself is at least a cool story. So I will NOT write a story about it, because it would really just be about me treating my rash and how I stay in now because I look dumb with calamine patches all over myself. Plus, I’m taking benedryl all the time which just makes me sleepy. Again, NOT a good story to submit for storytime.

But you probably have way awesomer stories than that. Send them to us! You can use our web form! It’s so easy!!

Yay, Friday!

As always, H-town’s got lots going on. It is very hot (no, duh?), so we will try and recommend things that don’t involve going outside for very long periods of time.

Starship Troopers at the Alamo Draft House – You’ve never seen this movie, you thought it looked silly, WRONG. It is an existential film for our time.

The Curse and the Jubilee at Domy books – A short film, sure to rock your world.

Breaking Bad – Don’t feel bad about just staying home and watching it with a beer. Someone is totally going to die this week.
